How Many Mock Tests Should You Take Before JEE Main?

Mukesh Singh·04 Oct 2026·6 min read

"How many mocks should I take?" is the wrong question. A student who takes 40 mocks and reviews none will lose to one who takes 15 and dissects each. Volume is not the lever — analysis is.

Mocks help, but with diminishing returns

Mocks help — but after ~15–20, volume alone stops moving your score.

The first several mocks fix your biggest leaks — timing, stamina, exam temperament. After that, the curve flattens. Beyond roughly 15–20 full mocks, extra tests help far less than deeper analysis of the ones you've already taken.

The 1:2 rule

Spend about twice as long analysing a mock as taking it.
A mock you don't analyse is just three hours of confirming what you already do. The learning is in the review.

For every 3-hour mock, budget roughly 2 hours going through every wrong and skipped question. Dakhilaa makes that review concrete — after each mock it shows your estimated percentile and a topic-wise breakdown, so you know exactly what to fix before the next one.
