Many aspirants use "JEE" as one word, but Main and Advanced are two different exams with different purposes. Getting the distinction clear early changes how you plan.
Who each exam is for
JEE Main is your gateway to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs — and it is the screening test for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is only for admission to the IITs, and only the top performers in Main can sit for it.

Difficulty and pattern
Main rewards speed and accuracy on a fixed, predictable pattern. Advanced is deliberately unpredictable — the pattern changes year to year, questions are multi-concept, and depth matters more than speed.

Attempts and how Main leads to Advanced
- JEE Main: held twice a year; you may attempt it across three consecutive years.
- JEE Advanced: once a year; a maximum of two attempts in consecutive years.
- Only a limited top slice of Main qualifiers (announced each year) can appear for Advanced.

You cannot skip Main. A strong, stable Main score is the ticket that even lets you attempt Advanced.
Always confirm the exact cut-offs and rules in the official bulletin for your year. Whatever your target, the base is the same — a rock-solid JEE Main performance, which is exactly what Dakhilaa's pattern-matched mocks help you build.
